On 6 April 2009, an earthquake struck the Italian town of L’Aquila, a medieval settlement built on an ancient lake nestled in the Apennines.

More than 45 towns were affected, 308 people killed and 1.600 injured. In addition, 65.000 inhabitants were forced to leave their homes.

Six years later the city center is still closed. The residents have been unable to return to their homes. The beautiful churches and monuments are still covered in scaffolding. The only sound to be heard in the streets is the wind blowing through buildings that may never live again.

Reconstruction in l’Aquila seems a hope that may never materialize.

Il 6 settembre 2015 a L’Aquila si svolge l’evento “Il jazz italiano per L’Aquila”, manifestazione musicale come atto di solidarietà verso la città colpita dal sisma.

L’Aquila è ancora una città fantasma. Gli unici segni della ricostruzione sono le barriere arancioni che impediscono l’accesso alle zone a rischio di crolli. Oltrepassando la “zona rossa”, l’atmosfera è totalmente surreale in cui lo scorrere del tempo sembra sparito. Sono trascorsi sei anni dal 6 aprile 2009 quando L’Aquila venne devastata dalla violenta scossa (magnitudo 6) delle 3.32. Il sisma è costato 309 vittime, 1500 feriti, 60mila sfollati e 10 miliardi di danni.

L’Aquila mostra ferite ancora aperte, ma cerca di ribellarsi e far si che il tempo ricominci a scorrere.
